Trailhead Ambassadors – Joffre Lakes

Sea to Sky Parks is currently hiring for trailhead ambassadors to join our Team working at Joffre lakes provincial park. This is a full time seasonal position running from June to October. The position involves working at the Joffre lakes trailhead providing information to the public about the park, local area and trails, as well as educating the public on safe backcountry travel. The position will also involve some basic maintenance duties in the park, which will involve hiking into some of the parkland areas.

Reports to: Trailhead Supervisor / Park Area Manager

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Park Trailhead Ambassador is responsible for providing information to the public, answering questions about the Park, and carrying out basic park maintenance duties at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park Trailhead. This is a seasonal position running from June to October.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with all Sea to Sky Park Services policies and procedures.
  • Deal with enquires from park users in a professional and informative manner.
  • Provide education to park users on Provincial Parks and the local area.
  • Be an ambassador for preparedness in the outdoors to ensure the safety of park users in the backcountry.
  • Carry out facility maintenance at the trailheads and in assigned park areas.
  • Carry out facility cleaning at trailheads and in assigned park areas.
  • Ensure the safe use of all required machinery and equipment, including company vehicles.
  • Perform regular inspections of company property as required, including company vehicles.
  • Follow proper record keeping procedures.
  • Open and close designated park gates to the public as required.
  • Ensure park compliance and security by informing guests of park regulations, and ensuring that guests are abiding by related guidelines, regulations, acts, and laws.
  • Call in assistance from other agencies as required, e.g., Police, Fire, Ambulance, Search and Rescue, BC Parks, per park polices and training.
  • Respond to emergency situations as required in accordance with training.
  • Maintain a high level of communication between co-workers, the Trailhead Supervisor, the Park Manager(s), Area Manager, BC Parks Rangers, and BC Parks Recreation Services Office.
  • Maintain a safe and positive work environment.
  • Monitor happenings in the park and respond appropriately.
  • Ensuring that all park visitors have the best experience possible.
  • Other related duties as required.

Park-Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Trailhead Ambassadors will inform and educate park users on any relevant park information and be an ambassador for backcountry preparedness and outdoor safety.

Skills & Abilities

  • Good public relations and guest service skills and experience required.
  • Resourceful, and able to work independently with minimal supervision in remote locations.
  • Ability to be proactive in completing and responding to tasks and duties as required.
  • Ability to enforce Park rules to gain voluntary compliance in an effective, calm manner.
  • Valid B.C. Drivers License required.
  • Ability to keep organized and detailed records regarding park usage, park incidents, etc.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of safe backcountry travel in all seasons.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Park information in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
  • Ability to be a supportive team member.
  • Previous experience working in the Outdoor Recreation industry.
  • Knowledge of BC Parks and its applicable regulations, acts, laws, and policies.
  • Must be able to walk up to 10 kms per day.
  • Standing up to 8 or more hours per day.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early shifts, day shifts, evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Calm demeanor with the ability to respond to emergency situations in a professional manner.

Terms and Conditions

Seasonal F/T Position, paid hourly from June 15th to September 30th, 2021 (training to occur earlier).

Possibility of additional work after September 30th.

Uniform is provided.

Own vehicle is required to travel to and from Nairn Falls Provincial Park which will be the starting point for this position.

Company truck provided to travel from Nairn Falls Provincial Park to Joffre Lakes.
