Title: Park Manager – Skagit Valley

Reports to: Area Manager

 

Summary of Responsibilities

The Park Manager role is a hands-on position which oversees all daily park operations.  Duties include overseeing and directly participating in facility maintenance in accordance with the Quality Control Plan, public safety & park security, administration tasks and the supervision of a team of park employees.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with all Sea to Sky Park Services policies and procedures
  • To follow Sea to Sky Park Services contractual duties outlined in the Park Use Permit
  • Oversee and directly participate in facility cleaning and maintenance in accordance with the Quality Control Plan
  • Hire, train and supervise a small team of park staff
  • Evaluate and set work priorities
  • Directly participate in park operations such as maintenance, public safety and park security, cleaning, fee collection, record keeping and reporting 
  • Inspect all park facilities to ensure standards are being met
  • To ensure the safe use of all required machinery and equipment
  • The identification of minor maintenance requirements for all equipment utilized such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers etc. and either conducting the maintenance or ensuring maintenance is carried out by contractors
  • Accurate and detailed park record keeping regarding park usage, duties to be performed and tasks to be completed
  • Ensuring minimal human-bear interactions
  • Conduct a regular inventory of products used, report shortages, and re-order as needed
  • Ensure park compliance and security by ensuring parkland areas are patrolled and guests are abiding by the campground and park usage guidelines
  • Maintain regular communications and positive working relationship with Area Manager and BC Parks
  • Maintain a safe and positive work environment
  • Monitor what’s going on in the park and respond appropriately
  • Provide information to park visitors and ensure they have the best experience possible
  • Other related duties as required

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with hiring, training, management and supervision of staff
  • Previous experience with POS systems, cash handling, shift auditing and working within a budget
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Microsoft Office programs; general computer and office equipment knowledge
  • Strong public relations and guest service skills required, must be able to be assertive while maintaining a friendly manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with team members
  • Excellent written and oral communication, team participation, and coordination skills
  • Ability to deal with emergency situations in an effective manner
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor environment and the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Knowledge of parks and/or grounds maintenance methods and the ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, vehicles and equipment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume environment
  • Resourceful and able to work independently in remote locations
  • Knowledge of the Park Act and the ability to gain voluntary compliance and defuse confrontational situations in an effective manner
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to walk up to 5km per day
  • Bending, lifting, carrying of materials
  • Standing up to 8 or more hours per day

 

Qualifications:

  • Completed or Enrolled in an undergraduate degree or technical diploma in natural resource management, outdoor recreation or a related field
  • WHMIS / Occupational Safety knowledge or certification 
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 (course available through Sea to Sky Parks)
  • Criminal Record Check 
  • Valid BC Driver’s License & Abstract required (work truck is provided during shift)

Seasonal hourly paid position

Uniform Provided

Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required – hours of work will vary throughout the season

Own vehicle is required to travel to and from the park

Staff that complete a full summer season for Sea to Sky Parks are eligible to receive a full season pass from our parent company Mt Seymour Resorts the following winter worth $800.
