 Park Manager – Porteau Cove Provincial Park

Position would commence immediately.

Position Overview

The Park Manager is a hands-on position responsible for providing a safe, clean and efficient environment for park guests and staff, while fulfilling Mount Seymour’s contractual agreements within the Park Use Permit.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with all Sea to Sky Park Services policies and procedures as set out in the Employee Handbook.
  • To follow Sea to Sky Park Services contractual duties outlined in the Park Use Permit.
  • Hire, train and supervise a team of park staff.
  • Develop and administer area budget based on previous year’s expenditures, upcoming projects and area needs.
  • Patrol the parking lot and park land areas and inform guests of park regulations such as designated camping areas, dogs on leashes, etc.
  • Ensure maintenance of trail heads, this includes: raking gravel, sweeping kiosk areas, maintaining garbage bins and map stands and picking up garbage from along the road side.
  • Ensure park facilities are maintained to park standards.
  • The identification of and minor maintenance of all equipment utilized (i.e. lawn mower, leaf blower, etc.).
  • Accurate and detailed record keeping in regards to general public park usage.
  • Accurate record keeping in regards to duties performed and tasks to be completed.
  • To ensure the safe use of all required machinery and equipment.
  • To conduct a regular inventory of products used and to report shortages.
  • Ensure park security by ensuring parkland areas are patrolled and ensuring that guests are abiding by the campground usage guidelines
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of/or enrollment in an Outdoor Recreation Management program and previous experience working in the recreation field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid level 1.
  • Previous experience in landscaping and small equipment operation an asset.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License required.
  • Cash handling experience, with the ability to conduct basic banking transactions.
  • Ability to keep organized and detailed records in regards to park usage, maintenance requirements, etc.
  • Administrative abilities including word processing and spreadsheet skills.
  • Must be mature, responsible and self-motivated.
  • Strong public relations and guest service skills required, must be able to be assertive while maintaining a friendly manner.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to be a supportive team member.

Due to the location of Porteau Cove own vehicle will be required to travel to and from the park to work.

Some options available for live on site if required.

Assistant Park Manager – Porteau Cove Provincial Park

We are currently hiring for a F/T Assistant Park Manager to join our team working at Porteau Cove Provincial Park. Position would commence immediately.

Position Overview

This position would assist and support the Park Manager with daily park operations, provide support to park staff and assist with administrative tasks and monthly statistical and financial reporting.

It would also serve as the front line field contact with visitors and clients through direct delivery or supporting the delivery of the full range of park programs including: facility maintenance in accordance with the Qualify Control Plan, public safety & park security, and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Key functions may include: Facility maintenance, janitorial and minor reconstruction, undertaking protection of natural, cultural resource and recreational features, monitoring visitor actions, maintain effective relationships with park visitors, and community , government and non-government groups, delivery of compliance and enforcement actions; providing information to park visitors; identifying and addressing public safety issues; undertaking liability and risk assessments and taking corrective action; providing input into park, resource and recreation management plans, undertaking emergency response duties to help protect the rights, property and interests of the government in parks, conservancies and recreation areas.

Skills & Abilities

  • Enrolled in undergraduate degree or technical diploma in natural resource management, outdoor recreation or a related field
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of parks and/or grounds maintenance methods and equipment.
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor work environment.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution relating to client issues.
  • Knowledge of the BC Park Act and related regulations.
  • Good written and oral communication, team participation, and coordination skills
  • Ability to deal with emergency situations
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently in remote work locations

Park Worker – Porteau Cove Provincial Park

We are currently seeking a F/T seasonal park worker to join our team at Porteau Cove Provincial Park.

Position will commence in February and run until approximately October.

Duties include:

  • Cleaning and maintenance of park facilities (including camp sites, beach areas, washroom buildings, garbage etc.)
  • Park Fee collections
  • Providing information to the public
  • Patrolling the parkland areas to ensure park regulation compliance
  • Other park duties as required

– Flexible work schedules, including some evenings and weekends.

Porteau Cove offers the opportunity to be involved in the planning and implementing of interpretive programming in the park. Involvement in interpretive programming is done on a volunteer basis outside of normal work hours.

All candidates should be mature, responsible and self-motivated, have a positive attitude and enjoy working outdoors with the public. Some relevant experience preferred, this includes work in the grounds keeping, facilities maintenance, customer service, compliance/enforcement, and cash handling fields. A valid BC driver’s licence is also required.

Pay rate is $14.00 – $16.00 per hour.

 Evening Patrol – Porteau Cove Provincial Park

Sea to Sky Park Services Operates a number of Provincial Parks, Day Use Areas and Campgrounds in the Sea to Sky Corridor. We are currently looking for a seasonal Evening Park Patrol Person to join our team working at our Porteau Cove location.

Position will commence immediately and run until approximately October.

Hours of work are approximately 2pm – 10pm depending on business levels in the park.

Duties include:

  • Patrolling park areas to ensure park regulation compliance
  • Assistance with landscaping and grounds maintenance duties
  • Park registration and fee collections
  • Visitor information
  • Assisting with maintenance of park facilities including day use areas, camp sites, beach areas.
  • Other park duties as required

– Flexible work schedules, including weekends.

All candidates should be mature, responsible and self-motivated, have a positive attitude and enjoy working outdoors with the public. Some relevant experience preferred.

A valid BC driver’s licence is also required.
