September 3rd, 2024: Sani station maintenance

The sani station at Birkenhead Lake is currently undergoing maintenance. There is a $5 self registration to empty at the sani sation, but there are currently no working water towers to flush tanks or refill.

August 27th, 2024: Park reopening August 29

Birkenhead Lake Park will be reopening on Thursday, August 29. Some areas of the park, including the Lakeshore and Sockeye Creek trails, remain closed due to ongoing safety concerns. The boat launch, beach area and campground will be open and active campsite reservations are still valid.

While conditions have improved enough to open the park, all visitors and campground users should expect to see and hear wildfire activity such as spot fires, smoke and falling debris from areas well away from the campground. Park visitors are expected to refrain from interfering with wildfire equipment or from entering the fire perimeter for any reason.

Get up-to-date information from other official sources, such as the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the local regional district, and Drive BC.

 

August 28th, 2024: Birkenhead Lake paddle sports rental is now closed for the 2024 season.  

 

Service fees are payable in cash only: Debit/Credit payments are unavailable in the campground due to a lack of cellular coverage.

REMINDER to all guests that the gate is closed from 10pm to 7am daily.

Road Conditions- Please be aware access to Birkenhead Lake is via Blackwater Lake Road which is a back country dirt road and can be pitted and rough on older/low riding vehicles.

There is no cell reception in the park and wifi is not provided in the campground.

Pit toilets are available in both the day-use and campground areas. No flush toilets or showers at this park.

About Birkenhead Lake Park

Birkenhead Lake Park is located 90 km north of Whistler. To get there, follow Highway 99 north from Whistler. In Pemberton follow the signs to Mount Currie and then to D’Arcy. The turnoff to the park is 33 km from the turnoff to D’Arcy. The park is 17 km from this point on a good quality, loose gravel road.

The park includes old growth forests, sub-alpine, and alpine environments. Birkenhead Lake is right beside the campground and there are several other small lakes in the park. The park protects important habitats for a variety of wildlife, including spotted owls, mountain goats, black bears, and grizzly bears.

Birkenhead Lake Park offers the serenity of wilderness camping with the convenience of vehicle access.  The Lake is great for fishing, complete with a boat launch. Fish for rainbow trout, dolly varden, kokanee, and whitefish. Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities on the network of trails in the park and beyond.  The lake is clear and fairly warm; great for swimming.

Canoes are available for rent on a first come, first serve basis provided by Paddle Sports.
